What is Sky Terrace 428 – the highest outdoor viewing platform?
The Sky Terrace 428 is on the top the Peak Tower on Hong Kong’s No.1 sightseeing attraction “The Victoria Peak“. It is the Hong Kong’s highest 360-degree viewing platform and located 428-meter above sea level. Therefore the number 428 is in the attraction’s name.
What can you see from Sky Terrace 428?
Unbeatable panoramic day and night view of skyline
On one side, you are able to admire, in a close distance, Hong Kong’s architecture, densely populated ocean of skyscrapers and the busy Victoria Harbour. Hong Kong’s famous landmarks, such as Bank of China Tower, International Finance Center, Central Plaza, are standing right in front of your eyes.
On another side, you can look far into the distance where Aberdeen, the outlying islands such as Cheung Chau Island, Lamma Island or Lantau Island are. The view can be enjoyed at any time of the day – be it in the morning, afternoon, evening or night.
Especially at night, the observation deck is a popular place to go and offers an amazing experience when the skyscrapers switch on their advertisement boards and lighting illumination.
Watch A Symphony of Lights – Laser Show
Some also choose to watch A Symphony of Lights Show from The Peak. To my personal experience, although it is visible to see the sparkling and glittering lights as well as the laser beams from far distance, since the Peak often has haziness at night, it is not a highly recommended location. The better locations for enjoying A Symphony of Lights is closer to Victoria Harbour in Tsim Sha Tsui where you can have a memorable experience with synchronized music.
Did You Know
“Besides telescope, the observation deck also provides free WiFi and an interactive audio tour with 6 languages. Scan the QR code and enable the exploration of Hong Kong’s skyline, culture and history.”
“In case you want to enjoy the night view from the viewing platform, it’s better to take a wind jacket or light sweater. It can get windy and a little bit cooler especially at the evening hours.”

Best time to visit Sky Terrace 428 – weather and view dependent
Come on clear weather
The best time for visiting Sky Terrace 428 viewing platform is similar to the Peak. The Peak can be best enjoyed at dry and clear days – be it day or night. However, be prepared that haze, mist, and fog can occur and limit and restrict your view. Even on a sunny day, the air pollution can affect the visibility of the view. Visiting the Peak on rainy days is not recommended.
Grasp both day and night view – but try to avoid crowds
Besides weather, day and night can give you very different experience. If you would like to enjoy both, going up to the Peak at late afternoon and stay till the dark falls would be a good option.
However, keep in mind that it is the most popular time for visitors. No matter you decide to take the Peak Tram, or the public bus, it always gets more crowded. Remember to plan some extra time.
As previously mentioned, getting a Madame Tussauds combo ticket is one way to avoid long waiting time.
